a loser elf here.
CHARACTERName: Carolus DiAble, nicknamed Carlos or Car.
Info Page/App: Here ya go!Who They Are: Carlos is the son of an Orlesian noble who fled Orlais once it was discovered she was an apostate. She assumed a new identity and married into a very wealthy Free Marches merchant family. After her husband, Carlos's dad, died mysteriously, his mother got control of his vast wealth and influence. Her vicious dealings and cruel ways gave her a name, "Cruella." This name she enthusiastically embraced. While most just thought her a very mean rich woman, in reality she was a very terrifying blood mage. Carlos did not have a happy childhood.
Once her true nature was revealed, Carlos, who at the time was eleven, was taken from her and placed in the Circle at Ostwick. It was there that he finally knew safety and peace - at least until the Rebellion started. Since then, he has been working with other mages and Inquisition forces as a support and healing mage. He specializes in protective wards and barriers and embraces the role of a support mage fully. He likes helping people. Every moment he does proves he's not his mother.
Where They've Been: He lived his childhood in the Free Marches, on a very impressive estate. He had very limited interactions with people, though. His mother kept him locked in the house where she treated him more like a servant than a slave. The few times he would have seen people as a young child would have been running errands for her or coming along with her to meetings and such. (Except for the possibility that there were other blood mages who had kids? I'm just saying. It could happen. If certain people choose to app or not. I'm always here for that.)
Once his mother was revealed as maleficarum he was placed at the Ostwick Circle. After the Rebellion, he worked with other mages in a support role backing them up and healing as needed. His heart was never in the rebellion but he wanted to protect his friends and survive. When the mages were brought into the Inquisition he continued that role, though now he was working with Inquisition forces as well as fellow mages. This means he's mostly been out on the field with Inquisition forces so has been a little bit of everywhere. If you want to have seen him around I'm cool with that. He did not, however, spend a lot of time at Skyhold. He's always been a field agent.
What They Want: The only time that Carlos felt even a little bit safe was while he was at the Circle in Ostwick. Because of this, he wants the Circles to return. He understands that many mages suffered terrible abuses under the templars charged with caring for them and so also favors a restructuring of the Circles to help prevent the abuse. The issue is that he is too nervous at the idea of total mage freedom to not have the mages watched over in some way. He's learning how to have more of a back bone to debate this topic if it comes up and would even share some of his experiences as a child to explain his opinion.
Carlos wants to learn more about science and other topics that Rifters have access to but isn't widely known in Thedas. Please save this child from believing in humorism.
The main thing that Carlos wants is safety. He didn't have that as a child and the safety of the Circle was taken from him once the fighting started. He knows the world isn't exactly "safe" right now with Rifts and ancient magisters and the Qun all threatening to tear it all apart. That doesn't stop him from trying to create a safe place or working to offer safety to others.
Also, he wants
a dog.
Plot & CR Desires: Friends! Who doesn't enjoy the themes of "found family?" I mean, that is classic Disney right there. Also, people who don't mind exploring the themes of recovering from abuse and surviving with a lot of those types of scars? Carlos has been away from his mother for several years now, but he still hasn't dealt with a lot of the wounds she left in him. Thanks to the Circle he was able to start unpacking them, but his recovery is going to be a life long process.
People to talk about the Circles with! Carlos supports the return of the Circles in some capacity. He obviously doesn't want it to be as easy to get away with abuse, but he fully believes that mages need some kind of oversight. Right now he's nervous about sharing that opinion but it would be a ton of fun to help him develop more of a back bone and show more of his own thoughts and feelings.
Rifters! Especially ones who want to adopt him and show him any science, technology, or medical advancements that could be applied in Thedas and useful for the average citizen. Seriously he believes in humorism guys. Please save him.
